Shortcuts for SEO: Google Search Commands

The following are my favorite SEO shortcuts because they give you a quick look at some of the most competitive search ranking factors and SEO audits

  • Site:(get your search results for only one website – this would show pages on My website with the word referral) – i.e.: i.e. site:mywebsite.com
  • Link:(find page that link back to a page or entire site) –  i.e.: link:www.mywebsite.com
  • Info: (find info about a page) – i.e.: info:www.mywebsite.com
  • Related: (shows pages that Google think are related to a site) – i.e.: related:www.mywebsite.com
  • Cache: (shows what a page looked like in the previous version) – i.e.: cache:mywebsite.com
  • Filetype:(search for specific filetypes only) i.e.: SEO Audit filetype:ppt
  • Aallintitle: (search keywords in page title) – i.e.: allintitle:SEO Updates
  • Allinanchor: (search for a link or anchor text) – i.e.: allinanchor:SEO links
  • Iinurl:(restrict search to page URLs) i.e.: inurl:webdesigningagency
  • Aallintext: (words specified in body text) i.e.: allintext:web designing agency in mumbai
  • Exclude words or Exclude multiple phrases: (if you dont want specific word in search result, you can use a short dash (-) to exclude words from the results) i.e.: web designing agency -mumbai or web designing agency -mumbai -new york -delhi
  • Exclude exact match phrases - (This search operator is a combination of the exact match and exclusion search operators) i.e.: Digital marketing -"SEO"(This tells Google to exclude the phrase you’ve specified in between the quotation marks.)
  • Use an OR directive - (This simply tells Google to show results with either X or Y. Type your two keywords, and in between them, type OR in capital letters) i.e.: SEO or SEM. You can also use the pipe symbol (|) in place of OR
  • Include words (If you’re searching for a niche topic and need to make sure certain words are included, you can use the plus sign.) i.e.: video marketing +SEO
  • Find synonyms - (By placing a tilde (~) before a word, you’ll get results with synonyms for that word.) i.e.: Christmas ~decorations (So “holiday ~decorations” would give synonyms like “decor.”)
  • Search specific domain types - (So if you’re looking for only .edu sites, you can use) i.e. site:.edu
  • Find content by certain authors - (There’s a quick and easy way to find content written by specific people) i.e. allinpostauthor: Neil Patel
  • Narrow your search to a specific location - i.e.:web designing agency loc:mumbai
  • Identify pages that aren’t secure - i.e.: site:mywebsie.com -inurl:https
  • Get definitions - i.e.:define SEO
  • Search within a date range: (The daterange: operator will show results within a range of dates that you specify, but this require Julian date format) i.e. SEO update daterange:2458453.78087-2458485.78087 (Julian Date conversion)
  • Find alternate TLDs : (This search will show you sites with the same domain name as yours but with a different TLD:) i.e.: site:mywebsite.*-site:mywebsite.com
